Bref by Darren Chin was first opened in May 2018. Chef Darren Chin wanted Bref to be a home for his memories, where his guests can make new and happy ones, and where simplicity can create so much joy. ‘Bref’ means brief or short in French, it is another brainchild of Darren Chin after the well-known DC Restaurant. Bref's atmosphere is more casual compared to DC. Guests can choose either to sit at the normal table seating or counter seating where you are able to observe the chef in action at the open kitchen. We had decided to go for the ala-carte menu instead of the usual course menu. Bref's usual course menu priced at RM288++/pax.
Complimentary Croissant and Sourdough
Comment: Flaky croissant and warm sourdough that taste really good with the dips. You can request for butter.
Bref's Cold Cappellini (RM75)- Abalone reduction, cured amaebi, snow crab, bafun uni, ikura shoyu
Comment: Definitely Bref's signature dish, uni and amaebi were fresh and sweet. This was a cold dish, very appetizing after mixing all together
Pappardalle "Umami XL" (RM68)- Black truffle, salted kombu
Comment: Wanted to try this so badly because I am a huge fan of black truffle! Totally in love with this dish! Very generous with the black truffle, pasta was al-dente, truffle taste was really strong, creamy and blended so well with the pasta.
Bref's Slow-Roasted Rack of Lamb (RM110)- 2-bone rack, eggplant puree, polenta, charred baby zuchinni, roasted lamb jus
Comment: Very tender and juicy (medium-rare) but I think it could be better in terms of taste-wise.
Cherry Valley Duck Breast (RM75)- Honey and spice glaze, elderflower, caramelised fig and peach, duck bone jus
Comment: As you can see, the duck meat was glistening. Very tender and juicy, caramelised fig and peach enhanced the flavor of the duck meat, made it really tasty
Signature Chocolate Dome (RM38)- Local Semai chocolate mousse (60% cacao), coconut and pear, paillete feuilletine
Comment: Rich chocolate taste but it was a little too sweet for me
Berries & Meringue (RM35)- Strawberry sorbet, panna cotta, macerated summer berries, soft crunch meringue
Comment: Sweet and sour combination, fruity kind of dessert after dinner
Bref by Darren Chin is a casual version of DC restaurant. However, it is also suitable for couples, family and friends gathering. It is usually packed with guests due to limited seats, so make sure you make an advanced booking to reserve your table. Do check out the link below for the menu!
