Ginza Sushimasa (Lunch Omakase)

Omakase Japanese Dining Fine Dining restaurant Lunch

[Date Visited: Mid December 2020]

Ginza Sushimasa was first opened in 2014 at Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur, operating independently and not managed by the hotel. Ginza direct purchase fresh and top quality selection of seafood from Tsukiji Market Japan in order to serve their guests the most authentic Japanese dining experience. The Japanese restaurant was small but cozy, there are private rooms available for guests. To get a complete Omakase experience, I always recommend my viewers to book a seat at the counter to watch the chefs at work.

The renowned Chef Hiroyuki Murakami was booked by a couple that day, so we weren't lucky to be served by him. I was there for their Omakase (Chef''s Selection) Lunch Menu (RM650/pax). This included 3 appetizers, 1 cooked dish, 7 nigiri, soup and dessert. For lunch, they are offering lunch don and lunch set as well. For lunch, the price ranging from RM120-RM1200. For dinner, the price ranging from RM400-RM1200. Omakase means you will leave everything to the hands of the chef and he will serve you the freshest ingredients available on that particular day unless you request for a particular dish upon making your reservation.

1st Appetizer- Whelk Clam & Vegetables
Comment: Fresh & chewy whelk clam but tiny

2nd Appetizer- Sashimi Platter: Large Whelk Clam, Saba, White Fish with its liver sauce
Comment: Very fresh sashimi, Saba was my fav and I love their fresh wasabi

Cooked Dish- Tachiuo (Silver Beltfish)
Comment: I liked the texture of the fish but not its salty taste

Shirako (Cod Fish's Sperm Sacs)
Comment: To be honest, I am not a fan of shirako because I don't like its slimy texture but the shirako here was fresh, it didn't smell weird at all

1st Nigiri- Fugu (Pufferfish)
Comment: It was super chewy, this fish was cleaned in Japan

2nd Nigiri- Ankimo (Monkfish Liver)
Comment: I wasn't a fan of its natural creamy melting texture, taste was slightly fishy & rich

3rd Nigiri- Akami (Lean Tuna) with citrus sauce
Comment: Chewy, strong tuna flavor with a hint of refreshing citrus taste

4th Nigiri- Uni (Sea Urchin)
Comment: Love it! Melted in my mouth with creamy, sweet and buttery taste!Yum!

5th Nigiri- Otoro (Fatty Tuna)
Comment: Otoro is always my fav! I love it when it melted in mouth, so rich with fat & flavor.

6th Nigiri- Their Signature- Engawa (Flounder's Fin)
Comment: My fav so far! Amazing with its soft chewy texture and oil-rich & buttery flavor.

Tamago (Japanese Omelette)

Seaweed Soup

Dessert- Fruits Platter
Comment: I wished they could be more generous with the dessert/fruit platter

No doubt the ingredients served by the chefs at Ginza Sushimasa were super fresh but I didn't quite enjoy certain dishes due to my personal preference. Surprisingly, I wasn't feeling full after completing the whole course as I wasn't a big-eater. I would be more satisfied if they could be more generous with the portions with that price I was paying for. Hopefully they could add a few more dishes to satisfy their guests. You wouldn't want to leave your guests feeling half-full. Also, it would be a better dining experience if the chef could interact and introduce the dishes to his guests. The hostess wasn't really knowledgeable in describing the dishes in English. However, they were attentive in refilling tea and clearing the dishes. If you want to sit at the counter, better reserve your seats early! Check out the link below for their menu!
