[Date Visited: End December 2020]

When I saw these futuristic-themed interiors and decors in Novae-Future Tavern, I couldn't wait to check out this insta-worthy spot and I immediately made a reservation. Unfortunately, I didn't get myself a tunnel seat as shown in the picture above as those were fully booked. If you would like to sit in those tunnel seats, better reserve a week earlier. That circular door caught my attention already before I even stepped inside.

Novae- Future Tavern is a 2-in-1 concept restaurant and bar in PJ that opened in July 2020. One part is Novae which focuses on doing modern Asian and Western fusion dishes; the other is Novae society which is a bar that serves cocktails and spirits. Apparently, some food and beverages weren't available on the menu on the day I visited :( I just went for the Ice Latte (RM13) because it smelled and tasted great. As for appetizer, I opted for their signature which was Tavern Prawn Roll (RM22), basically rice paper skin rolls wrapped with spice prawn, carrot, lettuce, Novae aioli and chives. The combination was not bad but those weren't fresh prawns.

Initially, my main pick for the mains was Seabass Asam Pedas Risotto (RM32) and Chinese Style Braised Lamb (RM60) but those weren't available, so I was quite disappointed...End up I ordered Spice Duck Breast (RM52) and Double Up Chicken (RM45). Spice Duck Breast sided with roasted potato, nai pa, charred spring onions and natural duck jus. Overall it was okay, taste and texture was okay but the sauce was a little mild. Double Up Chicken was also their signature dish, it was cooked in two styles of cooking berempah and butter sage, sided with roasted potatoes and grilled nai pak. The berempah taste was good but I couldn't taste the butter sage, it was very mild and it would be better if the chicken breast was slightly more tender.

As for dessert, the waiter recommended Baked Alaska (RM25), it was a combination of sponge cake, coconut & gula melaka ice cream and Italian meringue. The shape didn't turn out as what I had expected to be like the normal Baked Alaska, it was a flattened version. I couldn't taste much of the gula melaka ice cream, mostly meringue.

There could be room for improvement in terms of food and service (the staff weren't attentive, was waiting at the door for quite a bit and I had to request for a table). Hopefully I will get to try their risotto and cocktails next time. Ambience was definitely great for gatherings and dates.  Do check out their page in the link attached below!
