Shin Zushi USJ

Sushi Sashimi

[Date Visited:  April 2021]

Shin Zushi is a sushi bar renowned for its affordable yet quality Japanese food. Don't be surprise to find a long queue always during lunch and dinner time. Reservation is not allowed. They have four branches available in Klang Valley: Shin Zushi USJ, Shin Zushi Puchong, Shin Zushi Bukit Jalil and Shin Yakitori, Bukit Jalil. I didn't put too much expectation when I saw their price but it must be packed for a reason. The interior is similar to a casual Japanese restaurant and it is usually crowded.

Santen Salmon Sashimi (RM45)- 5* Salmon, 3* Salmon Belly and Ikura Sashimi
Comment: The cut was thick yet fulfilling and the sashimi were quite fresh

Salmon Spring Roll (RM9)- Fresh salmon, vege in rice paper with sweet & spicy sauce
Comment: A great starter with lots of vegetables that must pair with the sauce

Yaki Gyoza (RM10)- Pan-fried shrimp dumplings with ponzu sauce
Comment: The size was a little small with lesser filling but the taste was acceptable

Shin Roasted Salmon (RM12)- Mixed 5* torched salmon sushi
Comment: This dish has 5 different sauces paired with the salmon. The size was tiny, couldn't really taste much of the salmon, it was covered by the sauce.

Torched Eel with Mentaiko Maki (RM10.50)- Crunch roll topped eel & cod fish roe [Bottom]
Comment: Taste was quite good but the slice of the eel was too thin.
Spicy Dragon Maki (RM11)- Shrimp cutlet, cucumber, lettuce, topped floss, torched sliced onion & spicy sauce [Top]
Comment: Nothing special about this maki, the size of the maki was too small, couldn't taste the shrimp at all.

Saba Shioyaki to Tempura Teishoku (RM29)- Grilled mackerel with salt & assorted tempura set
Comment: The saba was cooked well. The batter for the tempura was slightly thicker, better if there's a proper dipping sauce

Soft Shell Crab Teishoku (RM35)- Fried soft shell crab, grilled chicken teriyaki & salmon sashimi set
Comment: The taste of the soft the shell crab was quite good with the sauce and I could taste the crab roe but the size was so tiny than what I had expected. The salmon sashimi was similar to the one above. Grilled chicken teriyaki wasn't meaty, too much skin given.

The Japanese food here is definitely affordable for most of the people. Overall, I think the quality of the food is reasonable for its price. Shin Zushi doesn't accept reservation, so better head there early to get a table! Check out their menu in the link below!
